Accessories for medium voltage cables

In the medium-voltage range, customers appreciate our wide range of accessories. Diverse, electrical and mechanical requirements are met by suitable designs and targeted selection of the materials used.

Since their market launch in the 1980s, metal-encapsulated SF6-insulated medium-voltage systems have an increasing share of the market due to their indisputable advantages for the user.

The compact design made a reduction in pole center distances possible, which, however, no longer permitted the use of the open terminal terminations used until then.

With these terminations other advantages, such as contact safety, environmental independence and freedom from maintenance, were also no longer possible. A new generation of terminations had to be developed: encapsulated cable terminations.

Unlike conventional terminations, for encapsulated cable terminations the interface to the switchgear must be more precisely defined.

In these cases, it consists of cone-shaped bushings (device connection parts), the designs of which are specified in the European standards DIN EN 50180 “Bushings above 1 kV up to 36 kV and from 250 A up to 3150 A for liquid-filled transformers” and DIN EN 50181 “Pluggable bushings above 1 kV up to 36 kV and from 250 A up to 1,25 n/a for plants other than liquid-filled transformers” are specified.

Today, two systems are established in the medium-voltage sector: outer cone and inner cone connections.
