Greetings from the President
A commitment to Excellence
I am Hiroshi Shikata, the President of Südkabel GmbH.
The partnership between Sumitomo Electric and Südkabel began in 2020 when Sumitomo Electric received an order from Amprion for the world’s first 525kV HVDC XLPE cable project (A-Nord), and part of the cable manufacturing for this project was entrusted to Südkabel. This marked the beginning of our important strategic relationship.
In June 2024, Sumitomo Electric received another order from Amprion for a 525kV HVDC XLPE cable project (Korridor B V49) and signed a priority negotiation agreement for cable supply for Amprion’s interconnection project (Rhein-Main-Link). To manufacture these large-scale projects in Germany, with a total projects value of more than EUR 3 billion, Sumitomo Electric acquired 90% of Südkabel’s shares in October 2024, making Südkabel a subsidiary, and decided to invest approximately EUR 90 million in Südkabel’s facilities. We are now working to realize this manufacturing capacity increase.
The opportunity to execute these HVDC projects for Amprion here in Germany, with the collaboration of both German and Japanese team and stakeholders in business management, manufacturing, and installation, is a highly rewarding challenge for us. We would be greatly pleased if our efforts contribute to the enhancement of transmission infrastructure in Germany and Europe.
Although we have just entered a new phase of management, we will strengthen Südkabel’s management with the support and guidance of our customers, partners, and all stakeholders. Through delivering outstanding products and solutions, we aim to contribute to German and European society.
